Yesterday at mandatory fun, a table advertising Y-Corps was set up, inviting delegates to write thank you notes to different charity organizations. But what is Y-Corps?
Y-Corps combines students from New York and Pennsylvania in a service learning initiative that culminates in a 5-day service trip in the summer. They learn how to lead with humility by participating in charity events in New York. However, preparation is no easy feat. Before they even get there, participants must complete 50 hours of community addition and fundraise $500 for the YAG Scholarship Fund.
The program, however, is much more than that. Emma Lamoreaux, the 2019 Press Secretary, participated in Y-Corps last year. She described meeting friends through the program that she never would’ve met otherwise. “It was a life-changing trip,” Lamoreaux said, recounting her experience.
Y-Corps touches lives all around the state and beyond. Their kindness and charity branch out to recipients of scholarship money, to those who will benefit from the delegates’ thank-you notes, to the students who receive an invaluable experience. With delegates’ support, it will continue to do so.
