The Gavel. Known for its distinguishable bang and order it brings, every Youth and Government delegate knows the importance of this glorious sculpture of wood. One gavel, in particular, Editor in Chief Kate Mancini’s, has been making history throughout this year’s Model convention. Not only is the Mancini the first Editor in Chief to receive a gavel in many years, but her gavel is like no other ever seen before. Measuring in at an astonishing 11 inches in length and 3 inches wide, this beloved piece of wood is very dear to Mancini’s heart. The wood, conceived in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, is the highest quality and rarest in the world. It has been known to give people odd sensations, such as sudden bursts of energy and severe urges to scream. There have also been reports of spontaneous combustion upon touching its surface.
After acquiring its abstract physique at a factory in the isolated mountains of Chile, the gavel made the 5,000-mile trek to Harrisburg and into the arms of Mancini. Once attaining her gavel, Mancini began to endure what she described to be unusual behavior. When questioned about her gavel, Mancini replied, “It’s been life-changing! There’s a video of me stomping into the press room waving it in circles above my head.” Mancini has also been spotted spilling coffee on herself around the Capitol, presumably because of her lack of coordination and the special powers the gavel gave her to which she is not yet acclimated. Although she has only had it for a short amount of time: Mancini isn’t giving up her gavel anytime soon!
