Everyone knows that there are certain delegates who go to the Model Convention a few hours earlier than the others. But what happens during this time? This year's Presiding Officers are ready to let everyone know just how hard they work behind the scenes to make sure model runs as smoothly as possible.
Youth Governor Rishin Sharma has worked very hard to make Model a success and now that it is upon us, all his hard work is being put to good use. However, there are still important things he must do before the Convention can officially begin. Thursday, Rishin trained the other PO’s in preparation for the weekend’s activities. He also made it a point to connect with the other PO’s. Sharma believes that Thursday sets a good precedent to what the rest of Model will be and encourages the next Governor to not overlook the importance of the day.
Blue Lieutenant Governor Kasey Roberts has also been working hard to prepare for the weekend. She and the other three Legislative PO’s spent their Thursday in meetings lasting four to five hours in order to review Parliamentary procedures and discuss how to run their chambers. Roberts also spent some of her time writing a letter to the next Blue Lt. Gov with her advice about the job.
Additionally, Blue Speaker of the House, Jacob Geil, has worked extremely hard for the arrival of the remaining delegates. On Thursday, he focused on reading through a lot of bills and touched base with his fellow PO’s. He also got in touch with committee chairs and delegates to ensure that Model runs as smooth as possible.
The Gold Lieutenant Governor, Daevan Mangalmurti, is also spending a great deal of time preparing for this weekend. On Thursday he sat in the meetings with Dave Tive, row officers, and caucus chiefs to get ready for this weekend. He did a lot of preparation for Thursday, and the rest of the convention, when he was elected and advises his successor to do the same.
Terrance Jefferson, the Gold Speaker of the House, is spending his Thursday learning minute rules and reviewing parliamentary procedure with his colleagues. He is relieving his stress about Model by getting more involved and doing fun YAG things like starting small debates with a few delegates. He spent Thursday ensuring that everyone else could have a stress-free Model weekend.
In the Press corps, Editor in Chief, Kaitlyn Mancini is diligently preparing future papers. On Thursday, she was most focused on making sure that all press delegates had their assignments and objectives in place for the weekend. She wants to make sure that everyone is accounted for and feels comfortable throughout the weekend, during and after training. Mancini is most excited for Friday’s press conference and to see how the delegates utilize their creativity and thrive.
Over in the Judicial Branch, Chief Justice Abby Han is working hard to ensure a successful model weekend. In order to prepare for the arrival of attorney’s, she utilized her time on Thursday afternoon talking to fellow justices about arguments that they are wanting to hear throughout the weekend and what kind of questions they will be asking attorneys. Additionally, both Han and the justices discussed ways that they can better critique the attorney’s arguments and give the best feedback possible.
A lot of preparation goes into making this weekend awesome. The people that were elected to run everything have done a great job ensuring that our weekend will fun and exciting.
